연구업적 관련 특기사항 - 석박사 연구를 통하여 석사과정에는 로봇, 박사과정에는 로봇두뇌에 필요한 지능 메커니즘을 연구함으로써 지능로봇의 이상적 구현을 도모함
- 로봇 응용에 특화된 신경망분야에서 선구적 역할
- 신경망과 로봇의 결합연구 일환으로서 신경망이 로봇자체의 모델과 환경의 특징 모델을 수학적으로 접근하는 것보다, 로봇이 움직이며 스스로 두 모델을 학습하면서 원하는 궤적을 보다 정확히 구현하는 새로운 신경망기반 SLAM 연구방향을 제시함.
- LG 전자의 청소로봇 주행 알고리듬 개발하면서 초음파/적외선등 저가센서에 기반한 SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping - 사전지도 없는 경우에 위치인식과 지도작성 동시수행) 기법개발로 청소로봇의 지능화에 기여. 청소로봇 이외에도 안내 서비스 로봇 관련 다수의 SLAM 논문 발표.
